the Mengba Steel Cable Bridge

The place where the Red Army once entered Sichuan has a magnificent steel cable bridge. This bridge spans the river at Mengba and is an arch bridge, adorned with various flags and symbols. Originally part of Mengba Township, it now falls under the jurisdiction of Lianghekou Town. In the past, the Dangshui River separated the two banks, causing countless households to sigh; the swift current obstructed travel, leaving people in distress. The peoples hardships were issues the government needed to address.

In 1984, the government began planning to build this suspension bridge. After two years of effort, the project was finally completed. They constructed the bridge towers on the riverbed, built the piers with concrete, made the girders from angle steel, and used steel cables as the main ropes. The bridge is over a hundred meters long and about two meters wide, with wooden planks laid on the deck and iron railings installed to protect pedestrians. Once completed, the bridge opened up access to the main road, and for thirty years, it has contributed to the happiness of the people.

After hard work, the people finally enjoyed a moderately prosperous life. The central government issued an order, and the provincial party committee also proposed a good plan. In 2018, Sichuan Provincial Peoples Hospital stationed here for four years to carry out poverty alleviation. The provincial Department of Transportation generously contributed, and Tongjiang China Resources Gas Company actively participated in the assistance. The county government, transportation, finance, and development and reform departments jointly discussed the project. Zhongke Huachuang Geological Survey Company, Tibet Jun Tai Design Company, and Zhuoxingda Construction Company all participated in the construction. The project started in the year Ji Hai (2019) and was completed with upgrades in the year Geng Zi (2020). They built bridge towers by the river, crossed the riverbank with steel cables, laid the bridge deck with steel plates, and set up crossbeams with channel steel. The bridge is 1.8 meters wide, 29 meters high, and over 140 meters long. This bridge connects two mountains, paving the way to Jin Guang Avenue, and the willows on both banks have thus formed a bond, exuding fragrance. We live in this prosperous era and should be grateful for the Partys kindness. The governments policies benefit the people, and great love knows no bounds. This stone monument is erected to permanently commemorate and praise!
