Folou Town has a long and storied history. As early as 1667 (the sixth year of Emperor Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty), there was a temple in what is now Folou Market, with a Buddha statue on its roof, named Foulou Temple. From 1732 to 1816 (the fifty-seventh year of Emperor Qianlong’s reign to the twenty-first year of Emperor Jiaqing’s reign), several temples were built here, including the Great Temple, Guandi Temple, Wenchang Palace, and Land God Temple. With the rise of the market, it gradually developed into a town, officially named Folou Temple Market, which has been used ever since.

From 1912 to 1917 (the first year of the Republic of China to the sixth year of the Republic of China), the system of the late Qing Dynasty was continued, and Foulou belonged to the fourth Jia of Dingshan Township, Bazhong County.

In 1918 (the seventh year of the Republic of China), the Bofu Temple was established to protect the camp.

In 1926 (the 15th year of the Republic of China), Foulou became an independent township. The Baoquan Camp was changed to the Defense Corps. In 1934 (the 23rd year of the Republic of China), the Defense Corps was changed to the Maintenance Association.

In the spring of 1935 (the 24th year of the Republic of China), Longgang Temple and Tudiya were merged into Foulou, and a joint protection was set up for Foulou, with Tudiya as its seat.

In March 1940 (the 29th year of the Republic of China), the joint guarantee was abolished and the township office was changed to the township office. In 1941 (the 30th year of the Republic of China), Longgang Field was separated from Foulou Township and Longgang Township was set up, and the township office was moved to Foulou Wenchang Palace.

In October 1949, Foulou Township was peacefully liberated.

In February 1951, the People’s government of Foulou Township was established, and the land was divided into a new town of Xinmin Township, and Foulou township was set up separately as Guanghua Township,

In the winter of 1955, it was merged into Foulou Township.

On October 1, 1958, the People’s Government of Foulou Township was changed to Qunying People’s Commune.

In 1966 it was renamed Xinhua People’s Commune.

In April 1974, the name of Foulou People’s Commune was restored.

In 1984, it was renamed township People’s Government.

In January 2002, the township was abolished and a town was established.

The two rounds of reform in 2014 and 2020 were both adjustments to Foulou Town.
